Solo Prep

About Solo Prep, an online SAT tutor that teaches one test

Solo Prep teaches the SAT and nothing else. No TOEFL, no school-grade tutoring, no general English. For 15 years we have studied how the test is written, and we teach from that work in live online classes for students in any time zone.

Who we are

Solo Prep is a Digital SAT prep service built on 15 years of SAT teaching. Over that time we have collected and analyzed more than 100,000 SAT-style questions, sorted by question type, difficulty, topic, passage field and grammar rule. From that analysis we have written more than 10,000 questions of our own.

The materials we teach with come out of this research, not from off-the-shelf prep books. When a new test form or official practice material is released, we fold what it shows back into our question bank and our lessons.

We do not put students into one large class with one syllabus. A student moving from 1400 to 1550 needs a different path from a student moving from 1000 to 1300, so each plan starts from the student's own diagnostic.

How we teach the SAT

A hand marking up a printed reading passage and question with a blue pen
We teach the order to think in, question by question, not the answer key.

Most students who plateau are not short on practice. They keep missing the same kinds of questions for the same reasons. Our teaching is built around three habits.

Fix why a question was missed

We do not read the answer key aloud. For each question type we teach the order of thinking that gets to the answer, so that when the same type comes back, the student can solve it alone. Every wrong answer is traced to a cause before it is counted as reviewed.

Read by question type

Reading and Writing questions are not all solved the same way. Words in Context, Text Structure and Purpose, Inferences and the grammar questions each have their own steps and their own traps. We teach them type by type and track a student's accuracy for each one, which is also how we read a diagnostic result.

Check progress with a mock test every four weeks

Lessons, a full-length mock test, error analysis and a revised plan run as one loop. In the first week a student takes a mock test and gets a report of weak question types. The second week puts most of the time into drills on the three weakest types. The third week moves to timed practice. In the fourth week the student retests, compares the result with week one, and the next month's plan is rewritten from there.

What we have built

The four Solo Prep SAT books: SAT VOCA 3000, SAT READING, SAT WRITING and SAT MATH 800
The Solo Prep series: SAT VOCA 3000 is available now; Reading, Writing and Math are in production.

Every question we write is matched against the patterns we see in official material: passage length, how the answer choices are built, and how difficulty is spread across a module. Before a question goes into use it is also checked independently by three AI models (GPT, Gemini and Claude), and any question one of them flags is revised.

The practice platform

Between lessons, students work on our self-study platform at test.satsoloprep.com, which has an English interface. Its full-length practice tests follow the Bluebook format: Reading and Writing plus Math, four modules, adaptive routing to the second module, and a timer.

  • Instant scoring when a test is submitted
  • Accuracy by question type and a breakdown by domain
  • A percentile for each result
  • A 28-skill map that shows which skills are holding the score down

The next lesson starts from the latest result rather than from a guess. If you are new to the test format, the Digital SAT structure guide explains how the modules and routing work.

Who we work with

Our students live all over the world, and every class is live on Zoom, not a recording. Lesson times are set in the student's own time zone, whether that is Asia, Europe or the United States.

  • International school students who read English well but run short of time, so we start with pacing on Reading and Writing passages and the hardest Math questions.
  • Students applying to universities abroad, who plan backward from application deadlines. Our plan for international school students lays out a typical timeline.
  • Students still building English, who need reading and grammar foundations before SAT question-type practice pays off.

We also license our question bank and student-management system to schools and tutoring centers under their own brand. Schools and centers can ask about it at support@satsoloprep.com.

Getting started

The usual first step is a free 56-minute diagnostic: 20 Reading and Writing questions and 20 Math questions, taken after signing in with Google. Instructions and explanations are in English, and the result shows accuracy by question type.

Write to support@satsoloprep.com with the student's grade, target score and planned test date. We will suggest a format, one-on-one or small group, and explain how our online SAT classes run.

FAQ

Are Solo Prep classes live or recorded?

Live. Every class runs on Zoom in real time, so students ask questions as they work through problems. We do not sell recorded courses.

Can students outside Asia take classes?

Yes. Students take classes from anywhere, and lesson times are set in the student's local time zone, including Europe and the United States.

Do you teach anything besides the SAT?

No. Solo Prep covers the Digital SAT only, both Reading and Writing and Math.

Where do your practice questions come from?

We write them ourselves, based on an analysis of more than 100,000 SAT-style questions. More than 10,000 questions have been written in-house, and 2,500+ are in the practice question bank.

How much do classes cost?

Pricing depends on the format and schedule a student needs, so we give it during the consultation after looking at the student's goals and timeline.
