SAT score cancellation deadline

College Board's rule for SAT Weekend is simple: you must cancel no later than 11:59 p.m. ET one week after your test date. You can cancel as soon as you leave the test center. For the remaining 2026–27 dates, that works out as follows.
| Test date | Last day to cancel scores | Scores released |
|---|---|---|
| Nov. 7, 2026 | Nov. 14, 2026 | Nov. 20, 2026 |
| Dec. 5, 2026 | Dec. 12, 2026 | Dec. 18, 2026 |
| March 6, 2027 | March 13, 2027 | March 19, 2027 |
| May 1, 2027 | May 8, 2027 | May 14, 2027 |
| June 5, 2027 | June 12, 2027 | June 21, 2027 |
Remember that 11:59 p.m. ET on a Saturday is already Sunday afternoon in Seoul or Tokyo. Full date calendar: SAT test dates 2026–27.
How to cancel your SAT scores
Cancellation is done online in My SAT. You do not need a paper form, a fax or a call.
- Sign in to My SAT
Go to mysat.collegeboard.org and sign in with your College Board account.
- Find the test
Under My Scores, find the administration date you want to cancel.
- Choose "Unsure about scores?"
Click Unsure about scores? next to that test.
- Agree and confirm
Agree to the Cancellation of SAT Scores Agreement and follow the instructions to finish. Do this well before the deadline.
If you took the SAT at your school on a weekday, you ask testing staff to submit a student-requested cancellation form, within five days of test day. College Board notes that in some cases those scores may still be shared with schools, states or districts.
What happens when you cancel
- It cannot be undone. College Board says that after a cancellation request is submitted, scores "can't be reinstated or reported to you or any institutions."
- You never see the score. Since scores are released after the cancellation deadline, you will not learn how you did.
- Colleges do not receive it. Canceled scores are not reported to any institution, including the free score recipients you chose.
- Do not expect a refund. College Board's refund policy covers registrations canceled by the Thursday before test day and does not list refunds for canceled scores. See our SAT fees page.
- You can test again. A cancellation does not stop you from registering for a later date.
Score cancellation versus Score Choice
Score Choice lets you choose which test dates you send to colleges. It is free, and you use it after you have seen your scores. The difference matters.
| Score cancellation | Score Choice | |
|---|---|---|
| When you decide | Within one week, before scores are released | Any time after scores are released |
| You see the score | No | Yes |
| Can be reversed | No | Yes; you can send an unsent score later |
| Colleges see it | Never | Only colleges you send it to |
| Cost | No fee listed | Free, but each report beyond the four free ones costs $15 |
| Limits | Removes that test date's scores for good | You send whole test dates; some colleges require all scores |
One catch: Score Choice does not apply to your four free score sends chosen at registration. Those go out automatically once scores are released. But you can change or remove free recipients until nine days after the test. So if you are worried about a test, you can remove the free recipients instead of canceling, wait for your scores, and then send them with Score Choice if they are good. That costs $15 per report instead of the free sends, but you keep the score.
Also note that some colleges superscore, combining your best section scores across test dates. A weak test date does not lower a superscore, which is one more reason not to throw a score away. See SAT scores for how colleges use them.
When canceling makes sense
Canceling rarely makes sense. Students often misjudge how a test went, especially on an adaptive test where a harder second module can feel worse while actually signaling a stronger first module. Canceling throws away real information about where you stand.
Probably keep the score if
- You just have a bad feeling about how it went.
- You plan to retake anyway. The score shows you what to work on.
- Your colleges superscore or let you choose which dates to send.
Consider canceling if
- You were ill during the test and could not work normally.
- You left large parts of a section blank because of a serious problem.
- You are applying to colleges that require all scores, and you are confident the result will not reflect your ability.
If something went wrong in the room, such as a disruption or a technical failure, tell the testing staff that day and submit an inquiry to College Board, whatever you decide about the score.
A better next step
When scores arrive, look at the question types you missed rather than only the total. Our practice platform breaks results down by question type, domain and a 28-skill map, so you can target the next sitting.
