Solo Prep SAT books: vocabulary, reading, grammar and math

The Solo Prep SAT books are four titles, one per area of the Digital SAT: SAT VOCA 3000, SAT READING, SAT WRITING and SAT MATH 800. Each one covers only what the test actually asks, with questions we wrote ourselves and an explanation for every wrong answer choice.

SAT VOCA 3000, the SAT vocabulary book

The word list comes from recent Digital SAT passages and answer choices, analyzed sentence by sentence, keeping only the words that recur. For each word, the meaning the test actually uses comes first.

  • 3,000 words the SAT uses, with 826 marked as three-star core words
  • Star ratings for importance, and SAT POINT notes for words with several meanings and for easily confused pairs
  • 30 words a day over 100 days, with a Daily Check of test-style word questions at the end of each day

Vocabulary on the Digital SAT is tested in context, so the book pairs each word with how it is used rather than a bare definition. For more on how Words in Context questions fit into the test, see the Digital SAT structure guide.

SAT READING

Students who read the whole passage and still miss the question usually used the wrong approach for that question type. The book sets out a solving order for each type and explains why each wrong answer is wrong.

  • One question type per chapter: how to recognize it, a three-step solving order and three common traps
  • Worked examples written out by hand on the passage and the graph, step by step
  • Wrong-answer breakdowns: one line on why each choice is wrong

SAT WRITING, the SAT grammar book

Punctuation and sentence-structure questions can be answered by rule. The book takes each tested rule in its own chapter and drills it with examples and test-style questions.

  • One rule per chapter, summed up in a key POINT and a single table
  • Easy, Medium and Hard examples, with an explanation of what makes the hard ones hard
  • Trap patterns: the wrong answers students fall for most, collected rule by rule

SAT MATH 800

Many Math points are lost on a sign or a misread word problem, not on the concept. The book covers each unit's concepts, how to use Desmos, and the trap patterns that cause common mistakes.

  • Concepts in formula boxes and graphs, including what values like m and b mean in a word problem
  • Desmos checks in about 30 seconds, with the calculator inputs shown screen by screen
  • Common wrong solution next to the right one, so students see the mistake before the fix

Desmos is built into Bluebook for the whole Math section. Our SAT calculator guide covers what is allowed on test day.
